Design has no passport. Great ideas travel
When these ideas travel to somewhere unfamiliar; a new climate, a new culture and a different lifestyle, the most successful ones don’t remain in the same way. They are open to new ideas. They adjust. They evolve into something that can only exist in that particular location, at that particular moment, and in dialogue with those who are actually living with them.
The story is told in this collection: the Zuri Collection by Dimensions, the most global inspired range, and perhaps the most intimate collection.
Where does Zuri begin
The word Zuri originates from Swahili. It translates to beautiful; however, in the way Swahili employs beauty, it also carries with it a sense of something that is not just to the eyes but also to the heart. We picked it carefully.
Zuri is a collection of furniture that was developed from an intensive research into the design tradition in the Indian furniture market has a hard time focusing on the craftsmanship tradition of sub-Saharan Africa with its remarkable connection to natural materials, organic forms and the belief that furniture isn’t separate from the area it is placed in but is a living component of it.
African style is the best of African design. It doesn’t decorate a room. It provides the foundation. The forms are large but not overly extravagant. The materials are real wood that appears like wood, a texture that beckons the touch, and a weight that conveys the permanence. There is a sense of confidence in African craftsmanship that doesn’t require embellishments to show off its beauty.
That was precisely the thing we wanted to bring to Delhi.
The translation problem
It is not imitation that inspires. This distinction is crucial when working across different cultural design languages, and was the primary creative issue when developing the Zuri Collection.
The main question was not: what is the best way to make African furniture to fit into Indian homes? The issue was what is the fundamental concept of design that is inherent in African craftsmanship; their structural logic, authenticity of the material, the connection between function and form and how does this design intelligence come through when it is filtered through Indian cultural sensibilities, Indian climates, and Indian lifestyles?
Indian homes, specifically the ones in Delhi NCR, have their own particular connection to the warmth and scale. The interiors of our homes tend to be multi-layered instead of simple. We host parties at home in ways that require furniture that is both stunning and practical. A sofa should be stunning at ten feet and comfy for up to four hours. The dining arrangement must be able to accommodate both an intimate dinner for the family as well as a larger family gathering.
The Zuri Collection was created to accommodate all this. The silhouettes reflect the spacious and grounded look of African design that is low, wide and settled, but are designed specifically to fit the floor heights, room areas, and the lifestyle requirements of luxurious homes of Delhi NCR. The colour palette is influenced by the warmness of African woodwork; rich, dense grains, deep tones and natural texture, but is chosen and crafted to meet the humidity and temperature changes.
What is the collection composed of
Each piece of the Zuri Collection is designed with the belief that materials should be able to speak for themselves before the design.
Frames are constructed from solid lumber that has been selected to match the texture, then dried according to a level of moisture that is suitable for Indian conditions, then joined with traditional techniques that allow the wood to move freely throughout the seasons without the structural integrity being compromised. The palette of upholstery was created specifically for this collection, which includes rich Earth tones and warm ochre weavings with texture, and luxurious velvets that bring the warmness of design but without any literal allusion to it.
Its hardware, as it is displayed, is sleek and subtle. There is nothing in the Zuri Collection that competes with the substance. Brass detailing that is applied to selected pieces is applied with meticulous control and catches light without getting in the way.
What you won’t see in the Zuri collection is decoration on the surface to be used for the sake of it. Every element is present because the piece needed it, not because a trend suggested it. It is an African design concept we’re most dedicated to safeguarding: the faith in letting honest materials and well-considered form suffice.
Why global design language matters for Indian interiors
There’s a variant of high end interior design for furniture in India, which is focused on the inside, drawing only on Mughal themes and traditional Indian craftsmanship or more specifically, the European influences that have dominated aspirational Indian interiors throughout the 20th century.
We are deeply devoted to these traditions. However, we think that an Indian homeowner in 2026 is among the most fluent and stylish buyers around the globe. They have travelled. They’ve observed the way design is viewed across various cultures. They apply that broad information to every purchase they make.
Zuri is a collection of chairs that was created for the buyer. It is for the person who has enjoyed sitting in a well proportioned seat at Cape Town or Nairobi and was struck by something that the majority of furniture stores in Delhi haven’t yet provided. The home of a person is not just about the place they reside, but also the world they look at.
Design with no boundaries
Zuri Collection is, in a way, our most honest declaration as the brand. Dimensions believes that great design does not belong to a particular style. Our mission as the bespoke furniture manufacturers of Delhi NCR is not to serve as the guardians of one style but to be proficient in a variety of them, and to assist our customers in discovering the language that truly is their own.
Zuri is the most clear embodiment of that conviction. This is an expression of a culture which is far removed from Delhi. It was created exclusively to be worn by Delhi. We think, more beautiful to be both.
